Pipelines 2026 Technical Tour WSU Boneyard Sessions

Wayne State University (WSU) and the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) have collaborated to develop WSU’s Pipeline Laboratory that allows for real world research and technology development. During this tour, you will see full-scale demonstrations of rehabilitation technologies, condition assessment technologies, and a dissected Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) section.
- Station 1: Rehabilitation Demonstrations - Firms will demonstrate innovative pipeline rehabilitation techniques on full scale pipe
- Station 2: Condition Assessment Demonstrations - Firms will demonstrate innovative condition assessment technologies on full scale pipe
- Station 3: PCCP Pipe Dissection - Prior to the conference, a section of PCCP from a GLWA main will be removed and put in the WSU Pipe Laboratory. The pipe will be dissected so all prestressing wire will be visible including wire breaks that were reported on the exhumed pipe section
- Station 4: WRF 5289 - WSU is part of a research team that is performing independent validation of acoustic velocity testing technologies (AVT) on pipes constructed at the laboratory. The test setup includes cast iron, ductile iron, and other pipe materials. Artificial defects will be put into these pipes so AVT firms can determine sensitivity to defects and limitations
- Station 5: Fiber Optic Monitoring - Acoustic monitoring is used to detect breaking PCCP prestressing wires as they occur in real time. GLWA is evaluating the performance of new firm entering the marketplace. This station will include wire cuts, so attendees can see how the system responds
This ticket must be purchased in addition to registration.
Fee: Early Bird: $40 | Advance: $45 | Final: $50
